Although something of a financial disaster, BARON MUNCHAUSEN is one of director (and former Python) Terry Gilliam's best pieces of inspired lunacy and imagination. Yes, the stories of a runaway budget were true - and most of the budget ended up on the screen in a whole series of completely original escapades. There's really no middle ground with this film - you'll either love it or hate it. The performances are all excellent, but Gilliam's extraordinary vision is what really captures the imagination here. There's not much to say about the DVD; there aren't any big features to speak of, but there is this great movie on it. Enjoy!
* BARON MUNCHAUSEN forms a trilogy of Terry Gilliam films, along with TIME BANDITS and BRAZIL, representing the dreams of youth, middle age and the elderly.
* Sean Connery was originally approached for the role of King of the Moon. He declined since he felt the role wasn't 'kingly' enough, at which point Robin Williams stepped in to do the cameo.
* A man in a satin stadium jacket can be seen in the lower right corner as the camera pulls back during the making of the petticoat balloon.
