CineSight Rating
O BROTHER is a retelling of Homer's 'Odyssey', seen through the eyes of the brothers Coen (Fargo). Ulyses Everett McGill (Clooney) and his two dim-witted companions (Turturro and Nelson) are convicts on the run in the 1930's deep South. Fast-talking McGill has broken them out of prison in order to get back home and stop his wife from re-marrying. Along the way, they encounter numerous diversions - a one-eyed Bible salesman; a bey of seducing sirens; a maniac gangster and the lawman from hell.

Joel and Ethan Coen are known for their quirky storytelling and their unique version of 'reality'. And once again, they deliver. Unlikely as it sounds, the translation of a Greek classic into hayseed epic works. Their dusty golden world is beautifully realized by cinematographer Roger Deakins and the likeability of the three heroes is immediately engaging, willing the audience to enjoy the wonder of the journey. I'm not a big Clooney fan, but he really fits the part doing his best Clark Gable immitation. The disk features are a little sparse but well presented. The story and the telling of it are the main attractions here.
