Watching this movie continually reminded me of Brit director Danny Boyle's SHALLOW GRAVE. While A SIMPLE PLAN is a solid drama, I must confess I prefer Doyle's wild and fresh approach. Paxton and Thornton perform well together, but Steven Smith's script and direction by Sam Raimi (DARKMAN, ARMY OF DARKNESS) veer away from any real chills and thrills. There are few major twists. Those that do exists are all so carefully set up that you can see them coming a mile away.
